Attic Insulation in Hurst, TX

Attic Insulation in Hurst, Texas

Hot upstairs rooms in July. An electric bill that keeps climbing. A draft along a hallway ceiling when every window is shut. Those usually trace back to the attic, and usually to insulation that has settled, thinned out or been disturbed since the house was built.

Dimensional Contracting is based at 6720 Ridge Estates Ct in Arlington. Hurst is inside the area we cover. We install blown-in fiberglass and cellulose, and batts where they suit the space. We do not install spray foam or radiant barrier.

The attic evaluation is free. We measure what is up there, photograph it, and tell you whether it needs topping up or taking out. Call (817) 502-9282. We do not take on walls, crawlspaces, duct work, soundproofing, commercial buildings or new builds.

What We Do in Hurst Attics

Attic Insulation

We install and upgrade attic insulation in existing homes. The material is blown-in fiberglass or cellulose, and batts where the space suits them. It goes across the attic floor, from the eaves to the hatch, worked around wiring and ductwork.

How much you need depends on what is up there now and how deep it is. The attic insulation page explains how we measure it and what we recommend.

Attic Insulation Removal

Old insulation comes out when it is wet, contaminated, or full of rodent droppings and nesting. We use truck-mounted vacuum equipment and long hoses so the material goes straight into bags outside rather than through your house.

While the attic floor is clear we can see the decking, and that is usually when a roof leak or a duct problem turns up. Insulation removal covers how the job runs and what happens to the old material.

Attic Insulation Replacement

A fresh layer of blown-in insulation on an attic floor

Replacement is removal and installation as one job: the old material out, the attic checked over, the new blown-in material in, at the depth the house needs.

It is the right call when the existing insulation is contaminated or soaked rather than simply thin. The replacement page sets out how we decide.

Damaged or Disturbed Insulation

A finished blown-in attic with even coverage across the floor and around the ductwork

If pests, a roof leak or someone working in the attic has damaged part of the insulation, we do not patch that one spot. We work on whole attics.

We check the condition of what is up there first, then recommend either adding more across the whole attic or taking it out and replacing it. Which one depends on what we find, not on a rule. The attic insulation page is where that choice is laid out.

Add More Insulation (Retrofit)

New insulation blown over an existing attic layer

Adding to what is already there is the cheaper route when the existing layer is dry, clean and simply too shallow. We check that first, then blow new material over the top across the whole attic.

Houses built before the current energy code are the usual candidates. Adding more insulation covers when topping up works and when it does not.

Attic Air Sealing

Foam sealant applied around a penetration in an attic floor

Air sealing closes the gaps that let conditioned air leak into the attic: around plumbing stacks, electrical penetrations, top plates, chases and the attic hatch. We use foam sealant and caulk.

It is worth doing before new insulation goes down, because insulation slows heat but does not stop air moving through a gap. Attic air sealing explains where the leaks usually are.

Blown-In Attic Insulation

Blown-in fiberglass going into an attic through a hose

Blown-in is what we use most. The machine stays outside and feeds material through a hose, so it gets into the corners, around joists and over the awkward parts of an attic in a way batts cannot.

We level it to a measured depth rather than eyeballing it. Blown-in attic insulation covers the materials and the method.

Attic Ventilation & Fans

Soffit and ridge venting on a residential attic

Attic ventilation moves hot air out and lets cooler air in through the soffits. We check soffit vents, gable vents and baffles, look for intake that has been painted over or buried under insulation, and put the airflow back.

We install attic fans, electric and solar. On an electric fan, a motor-only swap is not a job we take. Our own roofing crew does the installing, so you do not need to hire a separate roofer for a fan. Attic ventilation and electric attic fan installation each have their own page.

What We Usually Find in an Attic

The same handful of problems come up again and again in houses of a certain age:

  • Insulation that has settled below the depth it was installed at
  • Rodent droppings and nesting through part of the material
  • Staining and clumping under an old roof leak or a sweating duct
  • Bare patches over the rooms that end up hottest, usually along the eaves
  • Soffit vents buried under blown insulation, so the intake air has nowhere to come in

None of that is visible from inside the house, which is why the evaluation starts in the attic.

What You Can Check Without Going Up There

You do not need to climb into the attic to get a sense of it:

  • Upstairs rooms noticeably hotter than downstairs in summer
  • The air conditioning running almost continuously to hold a set temperature
  • Electric bills higher than the same months last year in similar weather
  • Drafts or cold spots near ceilings and around the attic hatch
  • Ceiling stains from a leak, past or present

Any of those is worth a look. We measure what is up there and show you the photographs, and if the attic is fine we will say so.

How Much Insulation an Attic in This Climate Needs

Insulation is measured in R-value, not inches. North Texas sits in climate zone 3. ENERGY STAR recommends R-49 for an attic that is uninsulated, and R-38 added on top where there is already three to four inches in place. Those are recommendations rather than code.

Depth alone does not tell you the R-value, because it depends on the material and on how compressed it is. We measure in several spots across the attic, check the bare patches around the edges and the hatch, and work out what is actually there before recommending anything.

Most houses more than fifteen years old come up short. Whether the answer is topping up or a full replacement depends on the condition of what is already in place.

What Your Neighbors Are Saying

“Honestly didn’t expect attic insulation to make this big of a difference. Our house used to stay hot all afternoon but after they finished, it’s way more comfortable. You can tell they really know what they’re doing and how homes in Hurst are built.” – Jessica M.

“Had them check my attic after one of those crazy North Texas storms. They showed me exactly what was going on and didn’t try to upsell anything. Solid, honest crew.” – David R.

“What I liked most was how smooth everything went. They showed up on time, explained the process, and cleaned up after. It’s rare to find contractors around here that actually follow through.” – Angela T.

Call (817) 502-9282 or use the contact form. Tell us what the house is doing: which rooms are wrong, what the bills have been like, whether anything has been up in the attic.

We come out, measure the depth in several places, photograph what we find, and tell you whether it needs topping up, taking out, or nothing at all. The evaluation is free and the estimate is in writing.

Every service we offer is on one page, and the areas we serve lists the cities with pages of their own.

How We Work

We are an attic contractor, not a sales operation. Nobody is going to lean on you at the kitchen table. We measure the attic, show you the photographs, and tell you what we would do and why.

If topping up the existing layer is enough, that is what we quote, and it costs less than a full removal and replacement. If it is not enough, we will say that too and explain what we found.
